(RE)Mix

Assembly Quartet | I-Chen Yeh, Paino | Colin Hill, Drum Set

(Re)Mix by Assembly Quartet, is an exciting new album featuring the music of 20th and 21st century composers Avner Dorman, Alfred Schnittke, and Bill Ryan.

The title (RE)Mix has a dual meaning. First, it pays tribute to Dorman’s 2007 composition Jerusalem Mix, renamed here as Jerusalem (Re)Mix. Second, all three works featured on this album are reimagined from their original instrumentation for SATB Saxophone Quartet + piano, with the Ryan featuring an added drum set.

(Re)Mix is the third in a series from AMP Recordings, the Assembly Quartet, and members Jeffrey Heisler (Vent), and Matthew Younglove (Night Set). All three releases work to further Assembly Quartet’s commitment to furthering the contemporary repertoire for the saxophone and the saxophone quartet through commissions, adaptations, and virtuosic performance.

Reviews:

“The one word that springs to mind after listening to this disc is “invigorating.” This is a terrific, high-octane ride. The recording itself is expertly balanced and judged, forward but not quite in-your-face. Fabulous, and wholeheartedly recommended”

— Colin Clarke, Fanfare Magazine, March/April ‘24
