Season of Change

Season of Change is the debut recording of jazz pianist Russell Schmidt. The recording features fresh, adventuresome takes on a mix of jazz classics and popular songbook standards.

The recording is comprised of nine consistently creative selections by the Russell Schmidt Trio. From the breathtaking beauty of Forest Flower to the raucous swing of Doxy, from the luminous, deeply moving balladry of Hey There and Infant Eyes to the leader’s furious abandon on Turnaround, this wonderfully sensitive trio moves and breathes as one. Additional highlights include Blue Room, Chelsea Bridge, My Ship, and the concluding track, I’m an Old Cowhand, performed with ease (and good humor) at full gallop.

Also performing on this world-class piano trio recording are bassist Dave Morgan and drummer Jim Rupp.

Review:

“Close your eyes. Imagine you’re in a jazz club near last call…”  Season of Change is a “good time for the listener… No boundaries stretched. No bold statements. But once in awhile it’s good to relax with someone who still plays the melody–who lets us imagine a smoke-filled room–even in our post-Nader era.”

— Ron Bierman, Jazz Review
